Malolos barangay declared ‘drug-free’
MALOLOS CITY (PNA) — After conducting non-stop anti-drug operations for two weeks, the Police Mobile Precinct and Mayor Danny Domingo here have declared barangay Caingin as "drug-free". City police chief Supt. Manuel Lukban Sr. said the special anti-drug team of the Mobile Precinct will now be deployed to another barangay to conduct a similar mission until the place is freed from drug, including users. Lukban said that barangay officials in Caingin headed by Chairman Carlito Fajardo has passed a resolution commending the Malolos Mobile Precinct in ridding the village of drug dealers. Twenty-four drug users and and a man said to be the main supplier of illegal drugs in Caingin fell in the campaign, Lukban said.
Raid on dog meat eateries illegal — DA
BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Cordillera yesterday reiterated that the raids on establishments in the region that serve dog meat are illegal and that the raiders are not even accredited with the agency. The agency’s livestock division disclosed that members of law enforcement agencies like the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) who conducted raids on the restaurants never secured accreditation from their office prior to their operations but only collaborated with the national Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC). The DA emphasized that groups conducting apprehensions should first secure permission from the agency to ascertain the legality of their operations. Last year, the Benguet provincial board approved a resolution reminding law enforcement offices to first secure accreditation from the DA before doing raids on food establishments that prepare and serve dog meat to their customers. Kalinga videoke bar padlocked by mayor
TABUK, Kalinga – The Office of the Mayor here last week padlocked a videoke bar for operating without a business permit and violating town ordinances regulating the operation of drinking establishments. Municipal Administrator Laurence Bayongan, accompanied by town Police Chief Charles Dumallig, padlocked the Starlite Videoke Bar in Dagupan Weste allegedly for continuously ignoring a notice from the Office of the Mayor to secure a business permit on or before Feb. 10. The closue order also stated that Starlite had violated Ordinance No. 08, series of 1996, which requires music establishments to install sound-proofing, and Ordinance No. 11, series of 1999, which sets the closure time for drinking establishments at 12 midnight. Business establishments in the town operating without business permits were given an amnesty by the Sangguniang Bayan on the payment of surcharges, interests and penalties for their delinquency until March 31. Summer job program for students launched
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PNA) — The provincial government, in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE), launched the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) at the Benigno Hall here last week. Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager Luzviminda Galang said the SPES program will benefit some 600 students belonging to low-income families. "The money that these students will earn from their summer job will definitely be of help in financing their respective studies," Galang said. The provincial government will pay 60 percent of every student’s salary while the remaining 40 percent will be subsidized by DoLE, Galang said.
