Rodizio In Pampanga (Holiday Inn, Clark Field) I was amazingly happy when I left Manila during the counter-EDSA Revolution celebration last February, and decided to have a gastronomic stay at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Clark Field, Pampanga just to get away from the traffic jams caused by countless people chanting their political displeasure.
Legend of the Spices Several lands owe their discoveries to spice. Thousands of men were sent on journeys and grand, geo-cultural explorations to look for spice in different continental hemispheres whose existences were not yet known then. Many of these men lost their lives as they sailed to uncharted seas and roamed unknown places—just to regally liven up the grand soirees, political expansions, post-war ceremonies and imperial banquets with highly spiced cuisines.
Discovering 10 Dove Street I admit, and I’m sure my Taste Editors will agree, that the gastronomic adventure in Cebu is still in its infancy. What clicks are the time and tested Filipino and Chinese cuisines plus the easy on the budget fast food items. Those who dare to deviate usually experience initial boom but soon bursts like a bubble after six months or so, if taste and prices do not fit into the Cebuano standard of good food and reasonable prices.
Podium’s lucky Italian Resto Roma mia is awfully lucky. The restaurant, located on the 3rd level of the Podium Mall in Ortigas Center, Pasig, is barely four months old. But diners are already arriving in droves. During lunchtime, Ortigas’ trendy yuppies pass through Roma mia’s doors in considerable numbers, and it’s fast becoming a family favorite during Sundays. Although quite unusual for a newbie restaurant, Roma mia’s tables are rarely seen empty; and with its growing popularity, expect thicker crowds to keep on coming.
Gerry’s Grill’s linking the Philippines through food Gerry’s Grill has come a long way since founder Gerry Apolinario opened its first branch on February 14, 1997 at Tomas Morato corner Eugenio Lopez Ave. in Quezon City. Now, eight years after with 17 branches nationwide, Gerry’s Grill is set to open two branches in the United States soon. The first one is located in San Francisco and is tentatively to be inaugurated this December, and the second one in Los Angeles and is due to open on February next year.

Hidden Deli En route to the shop at Clark in Angeles City, my family and I were caught unawares by our grumbling tummies protesting that it was thirty minutes past the lunch hour. But as we neared the "red light" district on McArthur, the road that leads to the duty-free shopping area, there were no fast food or Chinese restos in sight. Near the side gate, there were around 6 or more cars parked at a place called Bretto’s. We stopped by to check it out.
Music is ambiance and served as pulutan… Wednesday is the most tempting day for me to drink during weekdays, maybe because it is ladies’ night; or maybe because most of the drinking places have cocktail discounts; or perhaps I am just exhausted by the start of the week and I am simply getting ready for weekend diners. Off the kitchen, with apron’s laced out and my filthy jacket folded neatly, I went driving around Quezon City to convene with some friends, who are probably sharing the same sentiments; or in reality, we just can’t wait for the weekend to party and drink.
