After the successful Motorola RAZR V3, Motorola came up with the RAZR V3i to answer popular demand for increased memory storage. Now, after the V3i, Motorola introduces the Motorola RAZR V3x, the third incarnation of the popular RAZR V3. It's the answer for those who are ready to take the well-received handset to the next step: 3G.
Cut from the same cloth as the two previous variants, the V3x's aim is to deliver a compact 3G handset that incorporates the winning looks and clamshell design of the RAZR V3 while giving more value through the addition of third generation or 3G features.
Construction & Design
As wide and long as its predecessors, the V3x is, however, a little thicker. This is not as bad as it sounds for something that houses two cameras: a two (2) mega-pixel camera on the exterior and a VGA internal camera; and a whole lot more of features. The V3x is still quite compact compared to the other 3G clamshell units currently being offered by other manufacturers.
The V3x also sports a new finish with its matte plastic casing, reminiscent of black rubber, and electric blue external alert lights that turn on during battery charging and calls—a feature which is quite useful when you're looking for your phone in the dark, like inside a movie theater.
The V3x provides a tactile feel, at least for its back cover, which seems to move a bit when inputting SMS messages.
Keypads and Light Sensor
Compared to the RAZR V3, the V3x's keypads are softer and easier to the touch. It also features built-in light sensors that respond to ambient lighting conditions, regulating the brightness of the main display.
Display
The V3x, like the rest in its series, has both an external and internal display. The internal display, at 240 x 320 pixels, is bigger than the initial V3s. This is perfect for those who prefer and appreciate big screens but mind the bulk of a big phone. The V3x has a large screen compared to its overall size, comparable to those of other available 3G handsets. And at 256,000 colors, the TFT display provides a rich viewing experience.
Full Screen Mode
The internal screen or main display has a full screen mode both for viewing photos and videos. Videos can be viewed across the entire screen, which is uncommon for current mobile handsets.
External Display
The external display at 96 x 80 pixels and 65,000 colors serves its purpose. The user can be informed of messages, alerted to alarms, and know the time and date without having to flip open the handset; this is also a great tool when taking one's own photos.
Speakerphone Talk hands-free with the V3x's speakerphone; a loudspeaker situated below the handset allows for this function. However the speaker's location does not maximize the audibility of the tones or conversation. A headset is recommended in such instances.
2 Megapixel Camera and Video Calling
Users can capture images with more detail with its 2.0-megapixel camera, which has a very useful and functioning macro mode. There is also a built-in LED flash that is strong and can be continuously turned on, like a flashlight. A secondary VGA camera located below the internal main display can be used to make video calls and take still pictures. A camera shortcut key is also provided on the side of the handset for more versatility in capturing images.
Memory
Aside from having a substantial 64 MB built-in memory, the V3x also allows for memory expansion through a TransFlash card slot that can be easily accessed without having to remove the battery or SIM. The expandable memory allows you to maximize the enjoyment of your multimedia experience by allowing the user to store more files such as pictures, videos, and MP3 files.
Aeroplane Mode
An aeroplane mode is one of the V3x's key features. This allows the user to access the V3x's other functions without having to turn on the cellular phone capabilities of the handset. This means that you can listen to your favorite MP3 files or conveniently browse through your phone's calendar while on board an airplane.
Interface
Motorola V3 and V3i users will have no problem adjusting to the interface of the V3x, as they are similar. However the V3x has icons for both the still camera and video camera in its initial menu. Shortcut keys in the main display are also shown for commonly used functions.
Connectivity and Bandwith
The V3x can transfer files via Bluetooth and mini-USB through its application software. It runs on UMTS, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900 networks.
