Filipinos are either beauty conscious or coffee aficionados. If truth be told, they are both, with every new salon and coffee shop that are sprouting like mushrooms making it very obvious. With this in mind, combining these two businesses in one establishment, seemed to be a good idea for actress Jean Garcia.
Recently, she opened Le Chic Salon and Café, a new-fangled endeavor despite her busy show biz career. However, venturing in the business arena is not new to her, as she has managed a bar previously, which unfortunately closed down.
Realizing that its time once again to take a plunge in the business industry pool, she once more invested in something she believes in while thinking of her kids’ future.
IF THE WIG FITS
One of Jean’s investments in the show biz industry is her looks. Maintaining her good guise made her an expert in the look-good area. Her know-how in the beauty department just made her feel comfortable with her newfound endeavor.
She and her best friend Malou Ventanilla, in a spur of the moment, thought of putting up a salon.
Bearing in mind her ‘expertise’ as a woman and as a celebrity, she opted to put up a business that best suits her and one that she will enjoy.
The fact that making oneself beautiful in front of the camera almost everyday made her believe that this new venture is just right for her. "Dahil nasa TV naman ako, tapos nag-me-make-up, mahilig mag-ayos, so, at least, ‘yung business ma-e-enjoy ko siya," she relates.
BEAUTY OR NOT TO BE?
It can be said that beauty is only skin deep but for an actress whose main asset is her face, looking beyond the physical aspect is truly admiring.
"Beauty kasi, for me, is nanggagaling sa puso, nanggagaling sa utak, dapat palagi kang happy… happy ka sa puso at may peace of mind ka. I think ‘yun ang totoong beauty ng isang tao," she conveys.
For her, weighing outer and inner beauty is like a balancing act between the two. One has to feel good to look good.
Ultimately, Jean wants to be happy and for her new business to do well. "Ang magkaroon ng madaming blessings and good health are very important, especially for my kids. Maybe, five to 10 years in show business, sana maging successful pa rin, kasi I’m giving myself that span of time para puwede nang mag-resign," she relates.
OF HAIR AND STYLE
The two-floor beauty shop promises that it will cater to every client’s needs with its friendly staff and state-of-the-art equipment. Each customer will not only look good but will feel good, as well. Moreover, the coffee shop offers sandwiches and a variety of coffee-based beverages. Hanging out in a salon while waiting will not be so boring anymore, too.
"We cater to all, coloring hair treatment, foot spa, manicure, pedicure. We also have our digital perming. In the entire Philippines, 15 salons lang ang meron nito. Its kind of expensive but it’s different, because usually, kapag nagpapakulot ka, lalagyan mo nung usual na rollers, tapos lalagyan lang ng gamot. In this one, ceramic na ‘yung rollers na nakakabit sa isang machine," says Garcia.
When it comes to the interior, it is very modern and relaxing, it can even pass as a spa rather than a beauty salon, especially in the second floor. Adding a personal touch to her shop, together with her friends, putting things was just as easy as point-then-place.
(Le Chic Salon and Café is located at No. 14 Balete Drive, Quezon City. The shop opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m.)
