SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan — Mayor Julian "Jolly" Resuello here said yesterday that he is dismayed with the percentage of registered voters of this city who support Charter change through people’s initiaitive.
Only 45 percent of registered voters here support Charter change through people’s initiative.
Despite this, Resuello said that "my city is singularly committed to leadership of President Arroyo, House Speaker Jose C. de Venecia Jr., and Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno."
He vowed that "we shall have overwhelming support for constitutional reform, when the votes would be ratified when the people would have understood the issues."
"All the signatures gathered were authentic," Resuello said. "It took us time to gather the signatures because spirited debates and discussions marred the exercise because we did a lot of explaining on what they were affixing their signatures for."
He thanked Undersecretary Antonio Villar and Pangasinan Rep. Generoso Tulagan who "inspired us to work hard in the signature campaign."
He denied spending a single centavo in gathering the signatures.
