UST Singers ‘Go East’

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers kicks off their 1st Asian concert tour titled “Go East!,” on April 5–21, in Korea.

Following the success of their 2005 Korean and US Concert Tour, Prof. Jae-Joon Lee, an accomplished orchestral and choral conductor, has invited the UST Singers again to make a concert tour in the cities of Seoul, Daejon, Pohang, Cheonan, Daegu, Taean, Ulsan, Gimcheon and Dangjin in Korea.

The "Go East!" tour marks the 12th international concert tour of the UST Singers since its foundation in 1992.

The new batch with 25 members, will likewise be presented to the international audience during the tour.

In May, the choir leaves for Singapore and Taiwan to conduct a series of concerts and a lecture on Philippine Choral Music in cooperation with the NCCA.

The UST Singers is under Prof. Fidel Calalang Jr., conducting department coordinator, and is a faculty member of the piano and choral conducting departments of the UST Conservatory of Music.

The choir won over 45 top prizes in choral competitions all over the world, which include Tolosa Spain, Tours France, Monster Netherlands, Olomouc Czech Republic, Miedzyzdroje Poland, Spittal Austria, Montreux Switzerland, Miltenberg Germany, Gorizia Italy and Llangollen Wales UK.

They also won the Grand Prize and the best conductor award for Prof. Fidel Calalang at the Tonen International Choral Competition in Netherlands, the Gran Premio Citta de Gorizia in Italy, and the Choir of the World Grand Prize in UK.
