YOUTHFUL rider Maico Buncio and multi-titled veteran Jovie Saulog shared the spotlight with scintillating victories in the 1st leg of the 2006 Endurocross series at the Timberland Heights Raceway in San Mateo, Rizal recently.
Buncio, one of the country’s best young riders on the horizon, scored a twinkill in the KP5-organized event, ruling the Beginner Open Production and the Local A categories in style.
The youthful rider scored a perfect 50 in the Beginner Open as he topped both the first and second motos that were worth 25 points each as he zoomed past eventual runner-up Ralph Escosa (44) and Otto Von Samson (40).
It was practically the same end result in the Local A division, as he swept the two motos for a perfect 50, in beating the challenge of second placer Jun Mendoza (42) and Danny Felias (40) in the enduro festival backed by major sponsors Filinvest Land Inc., W.L. Foods and Chadarakobi Production.
Saulog, on the other hand, fended off the challenge of fellow motocross great Jolet Jao (44) in the Pro/Expert categery, where he piled up 50 points with a sweep of the two motos. Jimboy Marcelo finished third with a score of 40.
In the Executive Division, Carlo Leongson (50 points) turned back Recto de Leon (42) and Pax Alvarez (38) while Samson (47) bounced back from a third-place finish in the Beginner Open by defeating Tupe Peralta (47) and Snooky Cruz (32) in the Special Event.
R-Jay de Leon (47 points) beat Leongson (45) and Jonjon Antonio (38) in the Novice Open while Mendoza (25) roared past Felias (22) and Jun Edillion (20) in the one-day tournament covered by Sports Unlimited, Sports TV, Speed and BYK 101 with Inside Racing and Motorcycle Magazine featuring the race results.
