THE MIGHTY Filter Kings don’t need a twice-to-beat advantage to advance into the finals.
They made sure of that Saturday as the Mighty Filter Kings reaffirmed their supremacy over Addict Mobile, 72-65, to clinch the first finals berth in the Amateur Basketball Association (ABA) Championship at the Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City.
Working behind a stifling defense, anchored on veteran Dominic Uy and Royd Tan, the Mighty Filter Kings controlled the match from start to finish to inch closer to winning the title.
A win by the Mighty Kings in the finals will certainly embellish their dominant reputation in the Fil-Chinese community.
The Mighty Filter Kings, who finished second at the end of the single round elims with a 6-1 record, will face either Goldstar or Apsco in the finals.
Using his vast wealth of experience playing in the PBL, Uy mocked all guards thrown at him to finish with 16 points and 9 rebounds, a performance that further enhance his bid to win the MVP plum of the tournament.
Uy was ably supported by George Sia and Tan who combined for 15 points. Tan also shone on the defensive end by grabbing seven boards.
The Mighty Filter Kings buckled down to serious work right in the first quarter as they led as much as eight points and padded it to 12 late in the third.
Addict Mobile unleashed several runs in the fourth in the hope of tilting their game around. But their efforts went to naught as Mighty Filter Kings showed great resolve, especially on defense.
