CASSANDRA LIM and Samantha Ramos came through with a pair of straight-set victories over their respective rivals to breeze through the quarterfinal round of the JVC Open Juniors Badminton Championships at SM North Edsa over the weekend.
The top-ranked Lim, playing out of Poveda, romped away with a 21-13, 21-6 over Greencourt’s Lois Locsen while Ramos of Marikina Sports Hub trounced Juby Evangelista of 5AM Club, 21-7, 21-13, to advance to the last eight of the 10-under girls category of the event sponsored by JVC (PHILS.), Inc.
Others who advanced in the event backed by Victor, exclusively distributed by Pcome Industrial Sales, Bingo Bonanza, Snickers Chocolate, Hanford and Ltime Studio, were Ingrid Obinial of Malolos, Patrize Israel of Sportszone, Abbygale Evangelista of 5AM Club, Joella de Vera of Whakers, Jona Juanilo of RAQ4 and Marina Caculitan of Woodrose.
Obinial and Abbygale Evangelista scored walkover wins; Israel bundled out Michelle Cruz of La Salle-Zobel, 21-4, 21-7; De Vera held off Alyssa Leonardo of Malolos, 21-19, 21-12; Juanilo prevailed over Hasmin Labay of Pasig, 21-10, 21-13; and Caculitan routed Larriyn Ballesteros, 21-6, 21-4.
Action in junior play will resume on April 29-30 with the staging of the quarterfinal round at SM Marilao.
Meanwhile, the four-leg JVC Open regional badminton circuit fires off tomorrow in Cebu with a banner field clashing for top honors in the elite division, junior category (16under) and the intercollegiate team invitational at the Holiday Spa in Banilad, Cebu City.
The drawing of lots will be held today, according to the IMG.
