The book is now available as a must-have reference book in schools and homes alike.
"The Best of Bato Balani is a compilation of the best and most significant articles featured in the magazine during the past 25 years. However, unlike other compilations, the book adjoins the chosen articles with the current developments in science, thereby making it a relevant and interesting read, and a good reference material for homes and libraries," said Ms. Amada Javellana, President , DIwa Learning Systems, Inc..
The launch of the Best of Bato Balani was graced by sponsors, selected high school teachers, and Father James Reuters, Director of Naitonal Office of Mass Media of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. In his point of view, Father Reuters sees that "education is not Information. It is formation."
Diwa Publishing Group Chairman Saturnino G. Belen said that the Bato Balani articles aim to capture the milestone in scientific development during the last 25 years. "Filipinos have become active participants in the global commnunity. Inspired by innovations in transportation and communication, geographig boundaries have blurred and cross cultural cooperation fostered. Moreover, young Filipinos are finding that they need to keep updated on changes not only within the national sphere but within the global arena."
The book contains four subject areas with each subject having 25 articles. The articles are chosen by the Bato Balani editorial team and was reviewed by the country’s top scientists and academicians to maximize the information materials’ benefits to the students.
The topics in the book are discussed in two modes: (1) as a developing story with the latest developments on the subject; and (2) as a feature documented in a previous issue of the Bato Balani magazine. This approach allows the readers to get a glimpse of the topics presented by the magazine for the past 25 years and at the same time get fresh updates on the topics.
The four subject areas covered in The Best of Bato Balani are general science, biology, chemistry, and physics. In one book, the reader can uncover man’s fascination with the universe, understand the relationship between human beings and other living things on Earth, appreciate the way the universe works, and understand how our world functions.
"From among the 25 years worth of archived materials, these articles represent the most significant ideas that ever saw print on Bato Balani’s pages. Additionally, there are sidebar stories and a liberal amount of colorful photographs ang graphics to bring texture and content to the discussions," said Ms. Javellana. "It is my hope that this volume will represent the future direction of Bato Balani as it continues to bring quality science information within reach of every Filipino student."
