Manila (DPA) - Two suspected kidnappers were arrested in the eastern Philippines during a police raid on their hideout, an official said Friday.
Deputy Director General Oscar Calderon said brothers Jonathan and Gerardo Rinos were arrested Tuesday in Javier town in Leyte province, 630 southeast of Manila.
Calderon said the Rinos brothers were members of the notorious Waray-Waray kidnap gang, which operates in Manila and nearby areas.
''We expect a series of arrests of members of this notorious Waray-Waray group,'' he said.
Calderon added that the captured suspects were involved in at least 16 kidnap-for-ransom cases victimizing mainly Filipino-Chinese hostages.
