"Gallery of Philippine Motoring" photo exhibit tracing the history of the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and the country’s motoring industry, will highlight the first "AAP Auto Show."

The AAP Auto Show 2006 is one of the important events of a week-long celebration marking the 75th year of the country’s oldest and most respected auto club. AAP was formerly known as the Philippine Motoring Association (PMA).

The AAP Auto Show 2006 will be held from May 12 to 14 at The Forum, PICC, CCP Complex, Manila. The event will gather the major players of the auto industry and motorsports, and will feature the latest cars, aftermarket auto parts and accessories, gadgets, tools, equipment and related products and services.

Exciting activities are lined up for car buffs and motorsport enthusiasts, including car clubs’ exhibit, slalom, rally cross and karting events.

An "AAP Memorabilia Lane" will also be staged to present the collection of cars, racing gear, trophies, among others, of outstanding personalities in Philippine motorsports, among them Dodjie Laurel, Baby Luna, Dodo Ayuyao, Robert Aventajado, Vip Isada, Mandy Eduque and Arthur Tuason.

The formal opening of the AAP Auto Show on May 12 will also coincide with the launching of a book on the history of motorsports in the Philippines. Concluding the event will be the AAP Motoring Awards 2005 on May 14, which will recognize people who have made significant contributions to motoring. These awards will add to the regular citations which the organization has been giving to motorsports personalities for many years.

Aside from the Auto Show, AAP’s 75th year celebrations will include a "Vintage Cars Parade" around Metro Manila on May 7. The parade will showcase various models of vintage vehicles, to be flagged off from Manila Hotel – the site of AAP’s first office.

There will also be a conference on alternative fuels to be held on May 8, entitled "Alternative Fuel Sources: Prospects for the Philippine Transport Industry."

The seminar will assess the readiness and logistics infrastructure of the Philippine energy industry, and examine the types of alternative fuels, market and sources. It is set as the first conference that will bring together the government and private sector to discuss the various alternatives for fuel.

AAP, which counts a membership base of 70,000 motorists, is recognized as the National Auto Club of the Philippines by the Federation Internationale de Automobile (FIA) and the Associacion Internationale de Tourisme (AIT). As such, it is the only organization that regulates motoring events, such as motorsports. AAP is also the designated motoring body that issues the International Driving Permit which is a requirement when driving abroad longer than a member country’s agreement with the national motoring association.
