beneficiaries are healthy graduates
Noticeably smarter and glowing, beneficiaries of Cebuana Lhuillier’s "Ang Galing Mo, Bata!" feeding project recently received their diplomas as healthy graduates of 2006. These students from three day care centers in Caloocan, Antipolo and Pampanga also received their certificates of recognition for being one of the first to receive daily nourishment to fight malnutrition in their areas.
A brainchild of Cebuana Lhuillier president Jean Henri Lhuillier, Ang Galing Mo, Bata! aims to help alleviate problems of malnutrition among Filipino kids. From initially providing daily snacks to kids of Brilliant Minds Day Care Center in Caloocan, Ang Galing Mo, Bata! gradually increased its beneficiaries to include students from Pulung Cacutud in Pampanga, Sitio Culasisi in Antipolo and Iskul ni Bobby in Pasig City.
Everyday, volunteer employees from Cebuana Lhuillier together with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) educators give these kids snacks or hot meals. Aside from addressing their nutritional requirements, the program has also helped encourage the students to regularly go to school. These four day care centers were carefully chosen by Cebuana Lhuillier from among the hundreds of day care centers from the DSWD list. Priority was given to the communities where Cebuana Lhuillier feels there is a greater need for help.
"Ang Galing Mo, Bata! is Cebuana Lhuillier’s gift to Filipino kids. Most of our beneficiaries are kids from really poor families, families with no stable income or if they have, are still not enough to make ends meet. In our own little way we try to help them through our feeding programs," said Cebuana Lhuillier regional manager Barty Espino IV.
With most of the children being underweight prior to participating in the program, a gradual increase in their weight was seen after months of receiving daily nourishment from Ang Galing Mo, Bata!. Vitamin supplements like Enervon C, Growee and Nutrilin from partner company, Unilab were also given to the children daily under the close watch of volunteer employees and DSWD. Parents of these kids were likewise thankful for their kids’ physical and mental development.
"Lubos po ang pasasalamat namin sa patuloy na pagsuporta ng Cebuana Lhuillier sa pangangailangan ng mga batang nag-aaral sa Pulung Cacutud Day Care Center. Napansin ko po ang pagtangkad at pagsigla ng aking anak na si Clarisse simula po nang araw-araw na pagbigay sa kanila ng snacks at bitamina," said Caryl Laxamana.
