Former Philippine Stock Exchange chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr. topped Saturday’s election for 15 directors of the PSE in what is perceived to be its most peaceful board elections since the merger of the Manila and Makati stock exchanges.
Retired Supreme Court Justice Jose Vitug was reelected as independent director and chairman of the board while Francis Ed Lim was also reelected as director and president of the stock exchange.
Alejandro Yu was elected big broker director and treasurer while Aissa Encarnacion was named corporate secretary.
Garnering the highest number of votes was big broker director Coyiuto Jr. followed by big broker director and also former PSE chair Vivian Yuchengco. Coyiuto got overwhelming support from wide sectors, including institutional investors.
Also elected as independent directors are Cornelio Peralta and Jose Luis Javier. Other non-broker directors elected to represent PSE shareholders are: Roberto Atendido for ATR Kim Eng, Annabelle Chua for issuer Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company, Amor Iliscupidez of San Miguel Corporation and Roy Joseph Rafols of the Government Service Insurance System.
Other big broker directors elected are William Ang and Eddie Gobing while Francisco Villaroman and Joseph Roxas were elected as small broker directors.
Over 60 percent of shares were voted in yesterday’s elections via an electronic voting system. Lim said that during the subsequent organizational meeting, no post was contested as there was always just one nominee for each position.
