President Arroyo and her Cabinet will go to Baguio City this week for a two-day retreat as part of their annual observance of Holy Week.
The President is scheduled today to deliver her Holy Week message for the nation during her regular roundtable discussion at the Blue Room of the Kalayaan Hall in Malacañang, the official press briefing room of the Malacañang Press Corps.
She will leave Manila on Holy Tuesday to join her Cabinet for the two-day retreat at the famous Mansion House in Baguio, the country’s summer capital. The retreat ends on Holy Wednesday.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, however, did not give any details such as who will conduct the "private retreat." The President has enjoined all her Cabinet officials to attend and participate.
It is a tradition for the Arroyo administration to gather all Cabinet members for a retreat during the Holy Week. No official functions, such as Cabinet cluster meetings, are expected during the whole week.
The retreat gives the President and her Cabinet time to pause, reflect, and pray for divine guidance in their work amid the political turmoil rocking the Arroyo administration.
After the two-day retreat, the President will spend the rest of the week with the First Family. They are expected to observe the traditional "Visita Iglesia" (Holy Week church visits) in Catholic churches in Baguio City.
On Good Friday and Black Saturday, the First Family will go on with their private schedules just like ordinary Filipino families who usually spend quiet times together during Holy Week.
Mrs. Arroyo, who prays in Catholic churches in places that she visit here and abroad, will deliver her Easter Message in Baguio City, the most important feast in the Catholic Church liturgical calendar.
Before returning to Manila on April 17, Mrs. Arroyo will inaugurate and tour the newly renovated ward of the Baguio City General Hospital.
