The Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center has scheduled a total power shutdown from April 12 to 18 to rehabilate its main power supply lines.
Dr. Joyce Chow, the hospital's adminstrator, said that the power shutdown was originally planned next week but they opted to conduct it during the Holy Week observance for convenience.
''We have less patients during Holy Week, so less patients will be affected by the rehabilation,'' Chow said in a phone interview.
There will be a total suspension of the hospital operations on the said date. Patients will be accommodated in other city-owned hospitals and lying-in facilities.
Dr. Chow explained that their patients who have chronic illness will be transferred to hospitals like Ospital ng Tondo Medical Center in Abad Santos, Binondo, Manila, Ospital ng Sampaloc Medical Center and Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Del Pan, Tondo,Manila.
She said that the total power shutdown will give way to the rehabilitation of their main power lines, which are already ''very old''.
Dr. Chow said that their main power lines were installed in 1969 and newly acquired equipment, which contributes to their electrical load, have made it necessary to conduct repairs and improvements as soon as possible.
''Our doctors will still be on duty but they will report to the hospitals mentioned above for the meantime,'' Dr. Chow said.
The hospital will resume its operations on April 19.
