PUNCTUALITY is the trait of being on time – in meeting others, in attending occasions, in doing one’s work. It connotes cooperation, consideration, tolerance, promptness, readiness, responsibility, kindness, and respect.
Punctuality means responsibility in attending to one’s duties and obligations to others. It is a key trait for managers, teachers, government officials, and parents. Punctuality is one very important value that our people, especially our leaders, must possess.
Presidential Proclamation No. 225 issued by then President Joseph Ejercito Estrada declared the period April 9-15 Punctuality Week. This proclamation is complemented by Presidential Proclamation No. 732 issued on November 18, 2004, which declared the period November 21-27 as National Consciousness Week for Punctuality (Respect for the Value of Time) and Civility (Respect for the Rights of Others).
Our country will not be strong if we promote and chose as role models for the youth people who are brilliant but dishonest and corrupt. On the other hand, recognizing individuals who are exemplars of punctuality and other traits will propel our country’s progress and prosperity.
