ILOILO CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways is rushing work in the 39-km Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road Project in Western Visayas.
DPWH Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane, Jr. said that the R496.474-million road project is part of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)-Assisted Arterial Road Links Development Project which caters to the transportation needs of 11 municipalities in Iloilo.
These are: Barotac Viejo; San Rafael; Lemery; Sara; Batad; Balasan; Carles; Estancia; San Dionisio; Concepcion, and; Ajuy.
Earlier, Ebdane ordered the project contractor E. C. de Luna Construction Corp. to double its efforts to meet the January 2007 deadline.
The road project, which is now 67.232 percent complete, is aimed to support the growth of agriculture, fishing, commerce and tourism activities in Iloilo.
The project covers earthworks, sub base and base course, surfacing with 6.10 meter width of portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) and construction and rehabilitation of bridges.
