ASIAN BOWLING Federation grand slam champion Daniel Lim of Malaysia showed his championship form by dominating second stage of the 4th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge at the Pearl Bolwing Center in Parañaque City Saturday.
Lim rolled games of 249, 222, 225, 246, 257, 214, 229, 247 for an 1888 aggregate and an average of 236 over eight games to lead the finalists.
World No. 1 Kimmo Lehtonen of Finland shot 1825 to claim the second position while 10 pins behind at third was Kim Eun Jung of Korea, the only female bowler left in the finals.
Asian Championships gold medalist Wu Hao Mig of Taiwan and Malaysian National bowler Zulmazran Zulkifli both finished with a series of 1787 to tie for the fourth position.
The stage two of the finals was so exciting and close that as many as 13 bowlers crowded each other for the remaining three finals slots.
The Philippines’ Chester King kept his hopes for a repeat as he survived the cut by rolling a 248 on his last game for a 1770 and pass six other players for sixth spot while compatriot Tyrone Ongpauco steadied himself to place seventh with a 1766.
The eighth and final berth was snared by Taiwan’s Cheng Chao-Yu with his 1754.
Chao-yu is hoping to follow the footstep of his younger brother ChaoSheng who finished second to King last year but was unable to compete this year due to a hand injury.
The top eight finalists will bowl seven games of round robin against each other with a position round. After eight games the top four will advance to a step ladder format with a twice-to-beat clause for the top qualifier in this event sponsored by Euro-Med Laboratories and Storm Products with support from Bevida Distilled Water, Roto Grip products, Manila Hotel, Furusato Japanese Restaurant, Manila Bulletin, Pearl Bowling Center and Kegel Asia.
