Valley’s Tuason Centennial Cup set

THE SEVENTH edition of the Valley Golf and Country Club’s annual member-guest tournament has been renamed as the Don Celso Tuason Centennial Cup to commemorate the 100th birthday celebration of its prime mover and one of its founders.

Presented by Smart Communications for the second straight year, the DCTCC will be staged on April 20-23 at the championship south and executive courses of Valley with a confirmed field of over 800 players vying for prizes worth over P5 million.

Joey Salindong, chairman of the organizing committee, has been working closely with club president Louie Reyes, sports and games director Bobon Topacio and members of the DCTCC working committees to ensure another successful member-guest annual event.

Hole-in-one prizes include a Mitsubishi Lancer, Suzuki APV, Yamaha golf cart and other cash prizes with a total value of P2.5 million. Also to be given away was raffle prizes are a Yamaha golf cart, a Rolex watch, a Mizuno golf set and hybrid clubs, and household appliances.

The tournament is also backed by Armscor, Caltex Philippines, Comadore Sports and Leisure, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Makati Skyline as major sponsors. Premium sponsors are Bristol Myers Squibb, Circula/Macroxam, Citibank N.A., Dental B, DHL/WWW Express, Enriquez Security, GMA 7, Havi Food Services, Oriental Assurance, PNCC, Selecta, Sunbolt, Unilever, Unilab, Wyeth Nutritionals.

Hole sponsors are Abbot, AIG, Andros, Asahi Glass, Atty. The tournament is fully booked with 389 teams signing up within two weeks after registration started. To accommodate all the participants, there will be four tee-off sets, Thursday and Saturday morning and afternoon, and Friday and Sunday morning and afternoon.

First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and his playing partner, Martha Tuason are among the 852 registered participants. The First Gentleman is a nephew of Don Celso and has decided to join the tournament to pay tribute to his uncle and will join his cousins Bolo, Emilio, Konkoy, and Butch Tuason.
