DR. ALEJANDRO Albert Elementary School claimed 10 gold medals in athletics yesterday to keep Dapitan’s bid for the overall championship in the 5th Manila Youth Games alive.
Sheryl Bajar and Vanessa Faye Acbayan starred in Dapitan’s romp by winning their respective events. Bajar proved too quick for her rivals as she ruled the girls 12-under 100m dash and 1,500m run, while Acbayan triumphed in the girls 13-15 3000m run, 800m run and 1,500m run.
That upped Dapitan’s tally to 41 golds, 32 silvers and 28 bronzes.
Despite their big surge in athletes, Abad Santos and Binondo are still 1-2 in the standings as of press time.
Abad Santos, comprised of A.C. Herrerra, Bo. Obrero, M. Hizon Elem School, F.G. Calderon, Plaridel Elem School and Torres High School, remained on top of the provisional leaderboard with 49 golds, 49 silvers and 29 bronze medals.
Binondo, composed of Jose Abad Santos HS, City College of Manila and P. Guevarra Elem School, tallied 43-26-20 (gold-silverbronze) medals.
Pending the results in taekwondo and athletes, the race for the overall title remains wide open.
Central Taekwondo Gym and Manila Taekwondo Club are expected to strike heavily in taekwondo.
