Lawyer Atty. Luzviminda D. Puno, former clerk of court of the Supreme Court and wife of Senior Justice Reynato S. Puno, died yesterday morning at the St. Luke"s Medical Hospital in Quezon City due to complications from a heart surgery. She was 65.
Her remains lie at the mortuary and crematory chapel of the Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, where services will be held every night until the interment at noon on Sunday, April 16.
The flags at the Supreme Court offices on Padre Faura St. in Ermita, Manila and Baguio City, where the 15 SC magistrates have been holding summer session are now at half-staff.
Puno served the judiciary for 35 years. She was clerk of court of the SC, appointed on Sept. 11, 1993. She retired on June 23, 2005.
Puno held significant posts in various committees of the High Court. Among others, treasurer of the Philippine Judiciary, Inc.; and moderator of orientation and career seminars for judges.
She represented the SC in the Fiscal Autonomy Group, which annually appears before Congress and the Senate to defend and justify the judiciary’s budget.
Puno graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1961 from the University of the East, and passed the Bar examinations on that same year at 21. She also finished with high honors her undergraduate course with the degree Associate in Arts.
In college, she was honored with various awards such as the President Dalupan Scholarship and Outstanding Alumna for government service, fromy the UE Alumni Association.
Puno is the daughter of Dr. Gregorio and Anastacia Delgado. She is survived by her husband, Senior Justice Reynato Puno, their children and their spouses, Reynato, Jr. and Cheryl Mae H. Yap, and Emmanuel and Rachelle Catherine Fabreo, and her only daughter, Ruth. She has two grandchildren, Alessandra Isabelle and Laticia Raquelle Puno.
