The pioneer and leading school of criminology

Acting on the public clamor for quality criminology education, the late Supreme Court Justice Felix Angelo Bautista established the PHILIPPINE COLLEGE OF CRIMINOLOGY at 641 Sales Street in Sta. Cruz, Manila on June 1, 1954.

The Philippine College of Criminology is
located at 641 and 650 Sales Street in
Sta. Cruz, Manila.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

After his death on April 12, 1990, his son, Dr. Eduardo J. Bautista, took over and caused the steady and gradual progress of PCCr. Through his wise and superior strategic management, the PCCr attained its goals – that of being a prestigious and a world-class criminology institution and the construction of a new school building in 2002 for its students, including that of Manila Law College.

As early as June 11, 1956, the school had already a four-year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminology (B.S.Crim.). Among the subjects offered in its baccalaureate program are Political Science or Criminalistics (in ballistics, polygraphy and criminal interrogation), Law, Corrections, Police Ethics, Probation, Computer Science and other Liberal Arts subjects.

On June 12, 1961, the Bureau of Higher Education granted recognition to the Philippine College of Criminology for its first year in the masteral program. Later on July 31, 1972, it offered a two-year graduate program leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Criminology (M.A. Crim.).

Then, on April 20, 1993, the Philippine College of Criminology was authorized by the government to open its graduate program leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Criminology (Ph.D. Crim.) under Government Permit No. C-09.

On April 4, 1995, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issued Government Recognition No. C-035 for PCCr's graduate program leading to the same degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Criminology.

PCCr is now known as "the pioneer" School of Criminology for scientific crime detection and police science education in the Philippines.

The institution continues to contribute to the country’s security, peace and order through a holistic Criminology education and continuous development of students and professionals.

To inculcate integrity and devotion to duty, enlightened leadership, sense of community and love of God and country as a way of life for students and practitioners of Criminology and Law scholarship, grants are offered to deserving students who wish to pursue a four-year course from High School to College courses.

Students may be awarded grants directly by the PCCr-MLC or in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Manila San Miguel or other service oriented, non-profit civic organizations on a case-to-case basis subject to terms and conditions specified in the grants.

PRESENT STATUS

PCCr was cited by Philippine Educators Association for Criminology Education (PEACE) in 1999 as an Outstanding School for a timely CHED recognition to offer a Doctorate Degree in Criminology and by Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as Ranked No. 2 School under classification of 100 or more examinees in Criminologists Licensure Examination of May 2005.

Recently, the school installed a state-of-the-art Firing Range at the 9th Floor new PCCr building for students and professional shooters alike. The new nine-storey building houses, among others, an entire floor for its main library, classrooms that can accommodate comfortably up to 50 students, executive offices, a spacious canteen, a showroom and is linked via an enclosed skyway bridge at their 4th floor level with the eight-story building which houses classrooms, laboratories, an audiovisual room, a social hall, seminar halls, school administration offices, a multi-purpose sports and functions gymnasium and the school has separate special libraries for Criminology, High School, Graduate School and the Manila Law College.
