BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION of the Philippines Secretary General Graham Lim was released from the custody of the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) yesterday.
BID Chief Alipio F. Fernandez Jr. signed the release order in pursuance to the resolution of the Court of Appeals for the immediate release of the controversial BAP official through a temporary restraining order (TRO) promulgated last April 7.
Lim described the past 19 days under BID custody as a "nightmare" as he reportedly suffered sleepless nights and anxiety that aggravated his hypertension. The worst, he said, were the first eight days he spent at the unkempt and hot detention cell at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig.
"I know this is not yet the end of all my troubles, but I’m very glad I got out of this nightmare," said Lim after receiving the official document for his release signed by Fernandez.
"I’m very thankful to Commissioner Fernandez for upholding what is righteous and fair, and that earned my deeper respect to this ‘true man of government’ who advocates the rules and principles of law.
"And I would also like to thank the Court of Appeals Justice Rodrigo Cosico and Associate Justices Rosalinda Asuncion-Vicente and Sesinado E. Villon for taking into account the legitimate premises of our plea, asserting the higher interest of justice in granting the motion for a TRO. That only proves there’s still justice here in the country."
However, Lim cannot enjoy the comfort of his abode yet.
Upon the advise of his heart physician, Dr. James Cayetano, Lim will have to stay for two more days at the Metropolitan Hospital to ensure his heart condition and his blood pressure are stable.
