Easter Monday
WE are an Easter people, Alleluia is our song." The words of St. Augustine are as true for Christians today as they were for Augustine’s time. The faith of the Church through the centuries is built on belief in the amazing grace of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. That is why Christians continue to celebrate the Easter memorial of Christ’s resurrection throughout this week. They want to praise God and sing their Alleluias as they do their daily work.

A totally different Subic
OVER the Holy Week break, my family experienced a completely different Subic Bay, courtesy of the hardworking men and women of SBMA, led by Chair Fil Salonga, Administrator Armand Arreza and ret. Gen. Jose Calimlim. Our trip began with the marvelous arrangements by Gina Agustin, Armi Llamas, Sep Ruiz, and SBMA tourism manager Benny Triguero II. We were assigned an amiable guide, Milbert Adlawan, who made sure every minute of our stay was filled with new adventures. Milbert was among the original volunteers who cleaned up Subic Base and its environs after the Mt. Pinatubo eruption almost 15 years ago. He has stayed on and is eager to show visitors all of Subic’s nooks and crannies.

Who is Judas?
POPE Benedict XVI couldn’t very well ignore the Judas "question" even if he didn’t mention the Gospel of Judas so well publicized by Discovery channel.

New airport a boon to region’s economy
PRESIDENT Macapagal Arroyo has approved the construction of a new international airport on Panglao island in Bohol, a move that will no doubt have profound implications for the economic progress of the Visayas.

Language & wages
HOW quickly the country trains youngsters to speak American English will determine if it can credibly compete with India and some others in the red-hot call center industry.

Rising again as a nation
THE celebration by the Christian world and the country of the Resurrection has ushered in fresh calls and hopes for our recovery and rise as a nation.

Iraqis pushed on unity gov't
BAGHDAD, Iraq – US leaders are pushing Iraqis hard to resolve the deadlock over a new prime minister and form a unity government. But getting that done will offer no guarantee of a quick end to the country’s violence.

Now they’re talking about ‘Gospel of Judas’
FIRST of all, it was an auspicious time to bring the hitherto biblical topic in the middle of what the world’s Christendom was solemnly celebrating last week – the Lenten Season. And the subject matter - the reported unearthing of the so-called Gospel of Judas.

No end in sight to Nepal protest
KATHMANDU (dpa) - Professionals, including many from the tourist industry, took to the streets of Nepal Sunday in protest against the country’s increasingly embattled ruler, King Gyanendra.

The report of the guard
MARY Magdalene and the other Mary] went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the good news to Jesus’ disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced His feet, and did Him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me."

Jesus is a stranger, a mystery in our lives
AS I said in my column last Wednesday, I would continue with the other characters Jesus had as described in the book "JESUS: MAN AND MASTER," such as, Jesus being an Antagonist, Jesus being a Conformist, Jesus being an Organizer, Jesus being a Leader, Jesus being a Revealer, and Jesus being a Stranger. Continuing from my latest column on His character, "Jesus as Antagonist," is described by that book by asking: What does Jesus think of the people who have allowed their tradition to harden, their society or deteriorate – the spiritual and social leaders, the priests and elders, scribes and Pharisees? Anyone content with the easy generation that Jesus ‘hates the sin but loves the sinner’ had better take second look at the man who confronts these men. No, not confronts, attacks that is the only word. ‘Hypocrites – blind fools – snakes – vipers’ brood,’ He calls them.
