THE SONY ERICSSON W810i WALKMAN PHONE
spacer
A music phone for the younger market

By Carlo Suerte Felipe and Paul Marc Rañon

To tell, Sony Ericsson has earned its reputation for developing and creating distinguished product models of mobile phones that surpasses even their biggest rivals. Fine examples are their latest models, the Sony Ericsson K750i and their Walkman phone, the W800i. These two handsets have given a new definition to being mobile.

To tell, Sony Ericsson has earned its reputation for developing and creating distinguished product models of mobile phones that surpasses even their biggest rivals. Fine examples are their latest models, the Sony Ericsson K750i and their Walkman phone, the
W800i. These two handsets have given a new definition to being mobile.

But what if you combine the two unique handsets, and do a "hypermode" just like in the kid's anime Machine Robo Rescue? Guess what! It's the Sony Ericsson W810i.
Talk about creating a phone with an "intermediate of the evolution".

This quad-band, deep black mobile phone measures 100 x 46 x 19.5 millimeters and weighs 99 grams. We find it quite light and its structure takes a good grip on the hand despite its size (a little wider than the K300i). The unit that we got has a full black color with a matte finish. The keypad is easy to press and has a couple of buttons located on the sides.

There is a volume and camera button located on the left side of the phone. Pressing and holding the latter prompts the phone to camera mode. On the right side, there's the play button which activates FM radio functions. Plus, don't forget to insert the handsfree handset and all you need to do is plug the earphones or turn on the speaker in the radio options.

The W810i has a TFT, 262K color LCD screen and has a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The phone's camera uses CMOS sensors with 2 MegaPixel matrixes that give this Sony Ericsson baby an edge in picture quality. And by the way, the W810i camera can do auto focus which other so called music phones recently released in the market could not do.

As for the phone's MP3 player feature, it boasts an impression that users would love. When we played several MP3 songs and audio files, we turned the decibels to moderately high levels, and what we liked about it was that it was clear and crisp, and doesn't go "haywire" even at full volume.

Another feature for the W810i is its FM tuner. Unlike years ago, when mobile phones and radios are sold separately, W810i users can have both as one. A user can automatically or manually search his favorite radio station in just a push of a button.

The W810i alarm function is also a unique feature. Audio files aren’t the only ones that can function as alarm signals. Instead, radio functions can be set as alarm signals as well. All you have to do is choose the radio station in the alarm signal options.

By the way, just make sure to insert the stereo handsfree handset because it acts as the antenna for the radio. Without it, all radio functions won't work.

The phone's internal memory capacity is 20 MB, but don't be bothered. The package also includes a 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo (can be up to 2GB), thus allowing users to upload pictures, music, and audio files to the maximum.

Multimedia phones are truly multi-functional. Like the Sony-Ericsson W810i, you don't just get a phone and a camera but many other features as well.

The Sony Ericsson W810i is one highly capable mobile device. Designed for the younger market it is a phone that successfully combines a phone, a camera and a walkman plus a wide array of other functionalities, a no mean feat as quite a number of similar concepts failed miserably in doing so.
