We've seen this phone late last year but we weren't able to get first dibs for it was considered as one of Nokia's hottest phones. Now that we have a 3250 to tinker with, we checked out what this half-twisting, multimedia phone has.
Comparing it with the 3230 model, the 3250 slightly differs from the former in a few aspects. The3250 is a little thicker and a little heavier. Although it carries stereo audio quality and has a good 2 Megapixel camera with a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.
I looked at the Nokia 3250 as a transforming gadget (like those "Transformer" robots on TV). By just looking at the phone, you'll notice that the lower part of the fone (where the numeric keypad is placed) is not fixed. Yes, it can be twisted either clockwise or counterclockwise.
Also, at the back of the phone, there are four buttons located (play/pause & skip buttons). Perhaps you already have an idea on the uses of these buttons, but the question is "how?". Read on.
It may sound weird for a bar-type phone to have a twist, but it's actually part of its function as a multimedia phone. Since its camera lens is located at the lower-left side of the phone, you need to twist that portion 90 degrees counterclockwise to place the LCD opposite of the lens (similar to a camera's layout). The camera mode automatically loads up - no need to choose the camera function on the menu selection.
To get photos of yourself, twist the phone 90 degrees clockwise (from its normal position) so that the lens and the LCD faces you. This eliminates the need of a small mirror on the phone's layout and it's actually more easier to capture yourself on photo or video. Taking videos, by the way, requires you to choose the record functions in the options menu.
Using the mp3 player can be done in two ways. One way is to navigate thru the menu, or you can twist the phone 180 degrees counterclockwise (don't worry, that's not going to break the phone). After the twist, the four buttons (whice are placed at the lower back of the phone) are now positioned parallel to the LCD display.
Now, the play/pause and skip functions depend on which mode the phone is set. On camera mode, the play button acts as the capture button and the skip buttons will be used for zooming in or out of your subject. When you are on MP3 player mode, the buttons are used as you would in a CD or MP3 player.
The radio doesn't work? It won't unless you plug in a POP-Port enhancement which will act as the radio's antenna. You also need that POP-Port enhancement so that you can connect your earphones to the 3250. The USB cable is also dependent on the POP-Port enhancement. But don't worry, all the necessary accessories are included once you buy the phone.
Despite the 10 Megabytes of internal memory, the micro-SD expansion slot solves the 3250's storage capacity issue. Upgradable to 1 Gigabyte, the memory card (also included in the package) enables you to store more audio and image files. The downside of this feature is whenre the slot itself is located underneath the call key (yeah, you have to twist the phone in either direction to expose it). And, it's kinda hard to insert and remove the card since it's very small so you gotta be careful.
Overall, the Nokia 3250 is one multimedia phone to enjoy with friends. Just make sure to have a spare battery so that you're phone is always powered-up for long, multimedia activities.
