KIBUNGAN, Benguet — Municipal officials here are requesting the concerned national government agencies to provide financial assistance to thousands of families affected by the "sinking" of some areas in Barangay Palina.
The local officials said that they have requested the government to provide R3.2 million to augment local funds for the construction of housing facilities to accommodate the families that were dislocated by the "sinking" that affected three sitios in the said barangay sometime in 2004.
Earlier, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in the Cordillera recommended the immediate relocation of the affected households to avoid untoward incidents that may be caused by the geohazard problem in the area in the future.
The municipal government appropriated nearly R1 million for the project which already started.
Hundreds of houses would be constructed at the relocation site. (DAS)
