THE Philippine Poker Tour is planning to organize an Asian Poker series where the country will be the regional hub competition according to Chairman Rey Gamboa.
Gamboa discussed with gaming proponents from Las Vegas headed by Jack Binion, Doyle Brunson, Timothy Shiah and Wally Sombrero the possibility of organizing this event during the Asia’s Gaming & Entertainment Expo recently held at World Trade Center, Manila.
Gamboa said with poker gaining unprecedented popularity among Asians, the next logical move would be an Asian poker competition.
Based on the enthusiastic response of local poker players to the Million-Peso Hold’em Philippine Championship scheduled on April 29-30, the Philippines is the logical choice as main hub for the regional competition, Gamboa added.
Jack Binion started the World Poker Open championship that currently attracted the most entrants and the largest pool prize in the history of World Poker championships, while Doyle "Texas Dolly’’ Brunson is widely regarded as the best poker player of all time.
Tim Shiah is a well-known personality in the poker circuit in Las Vegas and acknowledged gaming expert. Wally Sombrero, on the other hand, is considered one of the better Filipino players in the Las Vegas poker circuit.
