TOLEDO CITY — Host Cebu Landmaster-Toledo cruised to its third win in four games by outlasting the fighting Toyota-Iloilo Warriors, 78-64, Wednesday evening in the ML Kwarta Padala Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) First Conference at the Marcelo A. Barba Sports Complex here.
With the score even after two quarters, 33-33, Richard Ian Saladaga and Bernie Ursal combined for 12 markers to push the Landmaster quintet of Realtor Joe Soberano to a 55-46 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
After Toyota’s Eldrin Senierez opened the fourth period with a jumper, the wards of Coach Jun Tan uncorked a 10-0 run that gave them their biggest lead of the game, 75-48, with seven minutes to play.
The best the Iloilo Basketball League-backed Warriors could do was to trim this to 57-67 behind Senierez and Rhagnee Sinco.
Saladaga paced Toledo with 13 points followed by Carlos Sayon with 11. Senierez again topped Toyota with 23 while Sinco added 16.
Action resumes today with the MVBA debut of the reigning National Students champion West Negros College Mustangs of Bacolod City as they visit the Mantawi Traders (1-2) at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
