Samar Oriental HISTORIANS have described this part of Samar islands as the "Eastern gateway to the Philippines." The coast of this small province faces the Pacific Ocean and much of the land is rugged: Vast parts of the province are forested. Its geographical location makes it prone to weather disturbances. On the other hand, its proximity to the Pacific distinctly gives it a tropical and exotic atmosphere. It has excellent body of waters ideal for deep sea fishing and surfing.
