Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) unveiled the all-new Previa at the 2nd Manila International Auto Show early this month. Toyota’s next generation mini-van features sophisticated exterior styling, a luxurious interior, functional features and a new 2.4-liter VVT-i engine for an overall great ride.

TOYOTA'S all-new Previa
The all-new Previa has been designed to capture the tension and beauty found in Japanese swords, highlighted by a strong, sporty and attractive monoform, with an elongated body and a center-emphasized front face.

Its character lines and moldings, which flow from the front end to side portray volume while further strengthening its high quality image. It is packaged with a more refined and sporty image with its lowered roof and widened width.

Overall exterior dimensions are 4,795mm in length, 1,730mm in height, 1,800mm in width, and a wheelbase of 2,950mm.

Driver’s seat is equipped with eight-way power controls, and together with the front passenger seat, offer power seat heaters. Super relaxed seating is the characteristic of second row captain seats with adjustable ottomans and integrated operation levers. Added comfort extends to the rear with its 60:40 split tumble down seats.

Fully automatic front and manual rear air conditioning system is adopted. Plasma cluster generator is also used to improve air quality and comfort inside the vehicle. Front independent right and left auto climate control is standard, and a push-button-type switch with pollen-removal mode is also implemented.

The audio unit is a 2-din, AM/FM tuner and in-dash CD player with six speakers located in strategic areas in the cabin.

Hassling key operation is eliminated to provide easy operation and improved user convenience through the use of Smart Entry and Start System.

Upon detection of the key, doors may be locked or unlocked by simply touching the switches on the door handles. Easy and simple engine start and stop is made possible by the push-button engine switch.

Power slide door and back door is made available through door-located switches and wireless remote.

For safety, a jam protection mechanism is used which reverses the operational direction of the doors, and an automatic closer is also adopted to improve ease of operation and help prevent theft.

Seats are ergonomically designed to seat either seven adults comfortably, or accommodate luggage. It offers an abundance of storage spaces composed of four sufficient capacity storage box, door pockets and cup holders that conveniently surround the cabin area.

Driving performance is also improved with the adoption of a sequential shifter for the transmission, and electronic power steering.

In striving for enhanced output, improved 2.4-liter VVT-i engine with maximum output of 170hp/6,000rmp and maximum torque of 224Nm/4,000rpm is incorporated.

This is complemented with refined intake and exhaust system, reduced friction in areas of concern, and enhanced combustion efficiency.

The 2006 Previa adopts a Column Electric Power Steering (EPS) for the rack and pinion steering mechanism, a system that uses an electric motor to assist with the steering force instead of a hydraulic pump.

Because engine rotation is not used, and the motor is driven only when necessary, EPS contributes to reduced energy loss and improved fuel economy.

Passive safety features include SRS airbags for driver and front passenger seats, and engine immobilizer with alarm for added security.

Active safety features include enhanced braking power through the front and rear 16inch disc brakes, and ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution).

The all-new Previa will be offered in GL (full-option) and standard variants. It will be available at the Toyota showrooms nationwide starting the second week of May.
