THE UNSINKABLE...
She first got our attention as Sean Penn’s effervescent but ultimately ill-fated daughter in Mystic River. After that, she got more raves as an equally hot decathlete who is also one of the few fortunate survivors in the rather apocalyptic The Day After Tomorrow. Then she even managed to pick up a Golden Globe nom as the compelling chorus girl who also became the love interest of a disfigured tragic figure in The Phantom Of The Opera. So what does Emmy do for an encore? Naturally, she resurfaces in yet another disaster flick.

YOU’VE probably seen her, though you may not have realized it. Maybe when you flipped open a magazine or a newspaper. Or switched on to MTV. But like most models, Charo Ronquillo is not necessarily a household name, nor are her aspirations necessarily that of Sexbomb celebrityhood or oh-so-glorious PBB fame. Granted, her work is far more glamorous than a 9-to-5 job, and the circles she moves in and perhaps even the places she frequents find their way to the talk-of-the-town columns and paparazzi pages. Yet the work supermodel Charo does, ironically enough, still affords her a measure of anonymity. She is the face and figure of many a familiar product, and yet she is not a familiar face or figure at all.

AND so the big blockbusters come rolling in. You can’t complain when they spend this much cash on movies, making them large, overwhelming behemoths which are meant really to inspire awe. Handed such a budget, you also can’t blame a director for going wild. In Poseidon, director Wolfgang Petersen, who most recently did Troy and The Perfect Storm, is like a kid given a bunch of new toys and left alone.
