BY the time all the 20 shrines — 12-foot high each — are completed on the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion on December 8 this year, they will be a sight to behold. Solemnly an inspiration of the faithful especially Marian devotees who will be building them.
Enshrined along the 14-kilometer stretch of the highway, the Way of Mary starts from the Our Lady of Peace at EDSA Shrine and ends at the shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Voyage in Antipolo City. It is also a Way of Peace, says a press statement.
The avenue, mainly along the Ortigas highway, will be called The Way of Mary, in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, inspiration and solace of the faithful.
Why the 20 shrines?
As explained by Louie O. Reyes, one of the lay leaders helping raise a substantial fund for the undertaking, each of the shrine represents a mystery of the Rosary. There are now four main Mysteries in the Decade.
The newest is the Mystery of Light which was instituted by the late Pope John Paul II in 2004. The original three are Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries.
The Way of Mary was actually conceptualized by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin. It was his wish, according to Louie who had worked closely with the prelate in many lay projects, to erect the bas-relief shrines "along one of the busiest thoroughfares in Manila to remind people of the Virgin Mary."
Moreover, it will "inspire and instill more spirituality among the thousands of pilgrims who go to Antipolo on foot Maundy Thursday, and on April 30, the eve of the start of the May festival" in the upland city.
Already, the shrines of the five Joyful Mysteries were blessed by Bishop Gabriel V. Reyes last April 30, in time for the annual Alay Lakad from the Quiapo Church to the Antipolo Shrine.
Cardinal Sin blessed The Annunciation at the EDSA Shrine last year, one of the last functions he attended before his passing.
How will the lay leaders involved in the project get sufficient wherewithals to finish it?
It was the wish of the late cardinal not to put the names of donors in the shrines. Donations shall be anonymous, according to Louie.
So, the lay proponents of The Way of Mary have devised a simple, obscure way where the faithful and devotees can give a few pesos to the undertaking: Text ON MASS or, ON ROSARY, and then send to 2600. Texters can even write his personal petition and it will be included in masses at different churches.
Angono artist Nemiranda will execute the bas-relief- in-concrete sculpture of the 20 Mysteries-shrines which will be put each on a pedestal designed by architect Joey Amistoso.
We appeal to our readers to now start texting their donations to The Way of Mary. And wish Louie (who was my advertising and market research professor in college) and his group of dedicated and able lay leaders the best of luck.
A US BILL’S BIZARRE MESSAGE. A certain Beverly A. Dickinson of Los Angeles USA emailed to me this strange revelation which she calls "almost too weird," in photos with appropriate copy and text.
Ms. Dickinson asks anyone with a new pink US bill to fold it in half lengthwise. Make two folds more at each end. And then a picture in the bill shows what appears to be part of the Pentagon on fire! Complete with dark smoke.
Now, simply turn the same bill over, she continued. And voila, you see what looks like the Twin Towers also on fire (again thick smoke is very apparent)!
The graphics in the bill like the White House and its surrounding trees strangely become the "unwilling" illustrations of the 9-11 tragedies.
Ms. Dickinson says, "What a coincidence! A simple geometric fold creates a catastrophic premonition printed on all US bills.
And as if the two bizarre graphics are not baffling enough, fold the front face some more and the word ‘OSAMA’ comes out in capital letters!
And to cap the mystery, by adding the two popularly abbreviated dates of the disaster, 9 + 11 = !
In the first place, "who figured it out?", asks Ms. Dickinson of the weird dollar bill-folding tragic representations.
