"An Evening of Mozart" is a fusion of brilliant Australian and Filipino talents, with a repertoire that celebrates Mozart’s most famous and illustrious compositions.
Austrian guest conductor Dr. Ernest Hoetzl conducts the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra for the overture to "The Magic Flute," the flute and harp concerto, and the Coronation Mass.
Austrian flutist Marianne Hoetzl-Koberer performs with celebrated harpist Lourdes de Leon Gregorio for two movements of the "Concerto K.299 in C for Flute and Harp."
Alejandro Consolacion, resident organist of Sanctuario de San Antonio and Holy Trinity Church in Forbes Park, will do three organ sonatas with two violins, cello and bass players from the PPO.
Soprano Camille Lopez Molina, tenor Ronan Ferrer, alto Minette Dayrit Padilla and bass Nonon Baang will perform with a 70-member choir for the "Coronation Mass in C K.317."
The choir will be composed of the Sanctuario de San Antonio Parish Church’s Coro de San Antonio Choir and the UST Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble whose choir masters are Amelita Guevara and Prof. Eugene delos Santos, respectively.
"The Coronation Mass" was performed for the first time for the coronation ceremonies of Emperor Francis II, and has been described as "a work that overflows with melody, and in fact has been persistently charged with being too wordily to be scared in music."
Mozart’s "The Coronation Mass" is considered the most popular of all the masses.
"We are elated to present the genius and works of one of the world’s greatest and perhaps most beloved composer of all times, which at the same time, will help us raise funds for the Sanctuario de San Antonio parish’s worthy cause," says Letty Syquia, the concert’s overall chair and Johann Strauss’s secretary-treasurer.
The Johann Strauss Society, Inc., stages cultural events that serve as venues for cultural exchanges, particularly in the appreciation of the music of Johann Strauss and other Austrian composers.
Johann Strauss Society’s VP and Mandarin Oriental Manila GM Helmut Gaisberger has worked with Amelita Guevara and Ernest Hoetzl on the program and production details.
Gaisberger has spearheaded many events that have earned recognition for Mandarin Oriental for making a positive and meaningful difference in the local arts and culture scene.
Some of the JSSI’s successful campaign activities include fundraising for the hospice care programs of the Philippine Cancer Society, the Alay Kapwa Kilusang Pangkabukasan (AKAP), and the Philippine National Red Cross.
The society has also staged in the past years, five gala nights of the Vienna Opera Ball and the presentation of debutantes, Springtime in Vienna, and Vienna New Year Concert, among others.
Tickets are priced at R3,000 and R2,000, inclusive of cocktails. General admission tickets are at P500.
