"Wi-Fi" or Wireless Fidelity is a shorthand name for a communications system that transmits computer data over short distances using radio waves. All Wi-Fi systems follow a standard known as 802.11, which was created by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) five years ago.
