Except for a rally held by some 50 members of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) in Canumay East, Valenzuela City, the opening of classes yesterday in 254 elementary and secondary schools in the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela (Camanava) area went smoothly, a police official said.
Camanava was generally peaceful yesterday, Chief Supt. Leopoldo N. Bataoil, director of the Northern Police District (NDP), said, adding that no crime incident has occurred.
In Valenzuela City, however, classes were momentarily disrupted when about 50 PTA members in Canumay East Elementary School held a picket as early as 7:30 a.m. denouncing the school principal for alleged irregularities.
A dialogue was called before lunch between the school authorities, led by their principal, and the PTA members with Valenzuela City deputy chief of police Supt. Nestor Dioso serving as mediator.
The picket ended peacefully at about 11 a.m.
Earlier in the day, Supt. Billy Beltran augmented the police desk in Canumay East Elementary school to prevent any untoward incident during the picket.
As this developed, Bataoil reiterated his directive to all the chiefs of police in the entire NPD to sustain their respective anti-crime operations especially at the vicinities of schools holding night classes.
