The Quezon City government has given the nod for the use of the Central Bus Terminal as the city’s new "bagsakan’’ market, similar to the Divisoria and Balintawak Cloverleaf markets.
Located at the vacant lot adjacent to the Manila Seedling Bank Foundation within the City’s North Triangle area on Epifanio de los Santos Ave. (EDSA), the "bagsakan’’ market, where farm produce and seafood products from different parts of Luzon will be offloaded and put on sale at numerous stalls, will become operational on June 9.
Developed by the Royal Kingsman Group Corp. (RKGC), the terminal market will offer fresh farm and sea products at low prices. It is a joint project of the Quezon City government, the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bureau of Post-harvest Research and Extension, Bureau of Animal Industry, National Food Authority, National Agribusiness Corp. and the RKGC.
Earlier, President Arroyo instructed agriculture officials to coordinate with the city government and other concerned agencies in tapping the Central Bus Terminal site as a "bagsakan’’ area similar to Divisoria and the Balintawak markets.
The President had earlier made known her desire for the immediate implementation of the project to cushion the effects of the increasing prices of oil fuel products and the implementation of the Expanded-Value Added Tax.
Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., has designated Neil Luna, the city’s assistant administrator for fiscal affairs and officer-in charge of the QC Market Development and Administration Department, to lead in the city’s participation to the project.
Belmonte assured the buying public that weighing scales thoroughly inspected by City Hall authorities will be used at the "bagsakan.’’ (Sel A. Baysa)
