Manila (DPA) - A bomb explosion rocked an insurance building in Makati on Tuesday, slightly damaging the edifice but not causing injuries, police said.
The explosion occurred before dawn in front of the Great Pacific Life (GrepaLife) Building, owned by Filipino-Chinese Alfonso Yuchengco.
The blast shattered the building's glass windows and damaged its walls, a police report said.
A group calling itself "Taong Bayan at Kawal (or Tabak)" (Masses and Soldiers) claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group said it was in retaliation for the failure of a Yuchengco company to pay its obligations to thousands of people who bought education plans from it.
Investigators said the bomb was planted near a telephone junction box. Anti-bomb experts were still determining the type of the bomb used in the attack.
