Dengue Awareness Month DENGUE Fever Awareness Month is observed in June every year. This month is indeed the best time to remind the public about dengue fever because it is the onset of the rainy season, when outbreaks of the disease usually occur. Dengue fever, a mosquitoborne disease that is endemic in the Philippines affects thousands of Filipinos, mostly children, and accounts for scores of deaths every year. Last year, more than 10,000 dengue fever patients were admitted in government hospitals all over the country. This figure will surely be equaled, if not surpassed this year, unless the public observes preventive measures against the disease.

Sing the anthem, love the flag EVERY once in a while, we have to be reminded to sing the National Anthem with fervor and to fly our national colors, the Filipino flag, with respect and dignity. After my article about the symbols of our nation, I received this email from Godofredo Habon: "…I feel irritated every time I hear "Lupang Hinirang" being sang in a tempo contrary to its original [Marcha Filipina Nacional]. In a briefing I attended at the National Historical Institute, I brought up this matter along with the desecration of the Flag, its wrong display, etc.. Take note how it is sang during sports events, e.g. boxing. Is it okay to sing it in many interpretations, at choreographed pa? I think, if we sing the original tempo anywhere, any time, then it might spell unity for us Filipinos. There seems to be utter dumbness and blindness in the rendition of the Pambansang Awit.. What a shame!
Twist and turn to Cha-cha tune THE campaign for Charter change seems to get more reprehensible before it stands any chance of getting better with the minority leadership in the House of Representatives determined to stall it by every possible means.

What Blair said to Benedict XVI PRIME Minister Tony Blair dropped in on Benedict XVI and urged the Pontiff to exercise his spiritual influence for an "interfaith" approach to terrorism. That’s an odd request from someone who is deeply involved in the war on terror.
Position of strength THOUGH the political climate remains fragile and volatile, and the positive economic upturn is services industry-oriented, and OFW remittance-dependent, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, nevertheless, seems to be enjoying a semestral vacation from battle-weary cause-oriented demonstrators, and from lawmakers, including oppositionists, gearing up for the annual foreign travel exodus, and congressional junkets.
Lessons from Bohol’s growth PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday inaugurated the R1.8 billion second phase of the Bohol Circumferential Road which is more than 136 kilometers long.
