ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan – Koreans and Americans topped the list of foreign tourists who visited the Hundred Islands here during the first quarter of this year.
Mayor Hernani Braganza said records showed that of the 13,070 foreign nationals who visited the famous archipelago during that period, 1,128 were Koreans, followed by Americans.
But even during the last quarter of 2005, Koreans had topped the list of foreign visitors to the Hundred Islands, statistics showed.
Owing to its uniqueness, Hundred Islands lured foreign visitors from all over the world.
Blessed with about 20 kilometer shorelines with over a Hundred Islands and islets, its water is shallow enough for safe swimming and sports activities like boating and snorkeling. And these are its "assets" that foreign and local tourists love to experience and see.
Due to its growing popularity, city officials here headed by Mayor Braganza and his administrator former police colonel and college professor Wilmer S. Panabang came out with a strategic plan for the next 10 years to further entice tourists, both foreign and domestic, to visit the place.
Panabang said because of the excellent peace and order situation in this town, visitors can sleep soundly at night and roam freely even during the wee hours of the night without being molested. He said that to further ensure the safety of the visitors coming here, Mayor Braganza has established police precincts in strategic locations in and around the city of Alaminos.
These precincts, Panabang pointed out, are manned by police personnel 24-hours a day.
