Miriam College, together with the Ateneo de Manila University, recently tendered a dinner reception for the participants and organizers of the UNESCO International Theater Institute World Congress and the Theater Olympics of the Nations Festival.
The theme of this year’s congress is: "Ancestral Roots to New Artistic Routes of Expression; Mobilizing Cultural Diversity to Achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals."
Around 150 delegates from about 100 countries and 75 local delegates participated in the event. Members of Theatro Kolehiyo ng Miriam (TKM) represented the school in the Congress.
The Philippines became the first Southeast Asian country to host this event after a unanimous vote during the 30th General Assembly of the International Theater Institute held in Mexico in 2004. This event is held every two years to promote the international exchange of knowledge and practices in the performing arts and to stimulate and increase cooperation among theater people all over the world. The Congress includes the General Assembly as well as performances, conferences, workshops and symposia.
