Here’s a classic TVJ news item—"Samantala, isang lalaki diumano ang gumahasa sa isang babae... ngunit ayon sa lalaki, imposible daw itong mangyari sapagkat diumano, ang kanyang ano ay hindi umano!"
Another version would be—"Isang matandang lalaking noventa y ocho anos ang nasasakdal ngayon sa salang rape... ngunit pagdating sa husgado, ang matanda ay napawalang–sala. Ang dahilan: ayaw tumayo ng kanyang testigo!"
Diumano, allegedly, sabi–sabi, sitsit, gossip, tsismis, blind item, hearsay... or in short and the shortest—DAW. Saan galing ang DAW? My only guess is that it came from English word DOUBT— misheard as DAW. Alam n’yo naman ang mga ninuno natin. Kung ano ang sulat, s’yang basa; kung ano ang dinig, s’yang sulat. Just like the case of the following—kabit–covet, syarap–shut up, hirit–hit it, singaw–seen out, and of course, bwisit–bullsh..!
And there’s more—papuri–potpourri, pusyaw–for show, sagad–so good, tsamba–(may) chance ba, bigote–goatee, and more–mi pa. And there are also cases of sounds heard made into words, like—pukpok, bugbog, sispsip, saksak, pagpag and pakpak. And don’t you notice, when somebody leaves, he says, "O s’ya... (ako’y magpapaalam na)." Saan naman nanggaling yung "O s’ya" na ‘yan sa tingin n’yo? I think it came from SEE ‘YA. And if you think harder and deeper, the word DOUBT might have originated from "The what?" Believe me? I doubt.
Now, let’s play DAW or DAW NOT (from "Nuts Entertainment’s" Doughnut of Balakubak and an endorser of Dunkin’ Donuts).
When a Pinoy Mount Everest climber was asked what his plans are after his world’s highest peak feat, he simply said, "maybe...showbiz." Wow... from sherpa to showbiz...very high talaga. Daw or Daw Not?
And when a son of a TV host–actor was asked what he thinks of the remake of Sharon and Cherie’s "Bituing Walang Ningning" now airing on TV, he said, "I like the original of Sharon and Cherie of course. This remake on TV today is nothing but a second–rate, trying hard copycat!" Daw or Daw Not?

This is not hearsay---there is really a village in Pennsylvania called Intercourse. As a matter of fact, they are celebrating this year their 252nd anniversary of the founding of this town. You will enjoy Intercourse because of its unique shopping experience. And if you get tired of Intercourse, just go a few miles west and try Bird–In–Hand—another village in the Amish Territory of Pennsylvania. I learned about this when I went to Hershey, PA with Eileen and my kids Jocas, Jako and Jio and stayed at The Hotel Hershey. We really had a sweet time in this side of Pennsylvania they call The Sweetest Place On Earth. Just like chocolates, it’s really for the whole family. They’ve got beautiful and scenic picnic and camping grounds, golf courses, a zoo ther call ZooAmerica, a spectacular garden, a giant sports complex, museums, the famous Hershey Chocolate World, Hershey, park (this is Disneyland with a lot of chocolates), even outlets for shopaholics and other interesting and entertaining spots. I particularly liked the attractions at the Hershey’s Chocolate World. They’ve got the best 3-D show I’ve seen. Kids of all agaes, pati nga ako, will surely enjoy the interactive opportunities to play at Hershey’s Factory Works, where you’ll experience the fun of packaging your own Hershey’s Kisses chocolates on a real production line. And it’s just like experiencing your first taste of Kisses chocolates when you see the Hershey Gardens and the Children’s Garden and its other attractions. You will enjoy the rich history of chocolates at the Hershey museum. Do you know that Milton Hershey, the man behind the chocolate bar, booked a ticket to the ill–fated super–ship Titanic’s first voyage? But business required him to sail three days earlier, so he instead took the steamer America. He escaped the disaster that claimed other millionaires, including an Astor, a Guggenheim, and a Straus.
According to its Kisstory, no one really knows where Hershey’s Kisses chocolates got their name. Some people think it came from the "smooching" sound made by the chocolate as it was deposited onto belts during manufacturing. Others think it came from the way your lips pucker when you pop a Kisses chocolate into your mouth. Whatever the reason—the name stuck!
Do you know that there are approximately 95 Hershey’s Kisses chocolates in a pound? And don’t you know that there are 25 calories in one Kisses chocolate? At kung ayaw n’yo na ng chocolate, try Lollipop, Popsicle or Doughnut... pero mamayang gabi pa ‘yan sa Balakubak sa Nuts Entertainment on GMA–7.
Next week, I’ll tell you about our side trip to Philadelphia. There I saw the biggest Hershey Kisses chocolate made of steel—the Liberty Bell!
