The Santacruzan is a May-time tradition in the Filipino way of life.
It is a commemoration of Sta. Elena’s untiring search for the Holy Cross. In short, it is a celebration of her faith and love for the Son of God.
For some years now, the Clothes of Life Foundation and the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu have joined hands in organizing the most glittering Santacruzan in the city, all in the name of charity.
The beneficiaries are the Mission Society of the Philippines and the Clothes of Life Foundation with its many projects for the needy.
For last two years, the project has been in partnership with the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
The festive event began with Holy Mass at the hotel lobby. Then the procession of sagalas unfolded, starting from the hotel grounds all the way to the Pacific Grand Ballroom.
It was a parade of fresh and familiar faces, flashy and fancy flowers and fascinating Filipiniana fashion!
The 32 sagalas were led by Reina Emperatriz Elvira Luym and Reina Elena Yedda Marie Kittilsvedt Romualdez.
They sat on places of honor and had a ringside view of the entertainment numbers — a merry mix of Philippine folk dances and songs, presented by the Sandiego Dance Company.
