Question: I just want to ask how I can prevent deleting desktop icons from my computer. My kids used to delete icons displayed on the desktop. Thanks. --Charmaine.

Dr. J:  What you can do is to use your Active Desktop.  On the System Policies and Restrictions page under Web Desktop, you can put a checkmark on Disable deleting any desktop items.

Question:  I would like to ask how I could possibly remove note.exe permanently in my system.  It affects my floppy drive and it keeps on reading even without disks inserted in the drive and it produces unnecessary sound.  Please help. --Ei.

Dr. J:  Note.exe is the file installed once your system is infected by a virus called PictureNote.Trojan.  You need to use your anti-virus software to delete it.  Manually deleting the file will not help you one bit.

Question:  We are currently connected to the Internet through wireless connection from our ISP.  We have to configure the connection option of Internet Explorer to use the proxy server of our ISP in order to browse the Web. Our problem is for the last 2 months, we can open our Yahoo e-mail accounts but we can't send messages because there is no portion there to type our messages as you can see in the attached image.  We have to download another Internet browser like Mozilla Firefox, which I am using right now, in order to send e-mail. --Rod Embate.

Dr. J:  There's nothing wrong with your connection.  The problem lies in the configuration of your browser or the configuration of your proxy server.

Question:  I was wondering if you can help me with my problem.  Every time I activate my computer it always starts in the CMOS Set-up.  What I do is that I just press F10 to save and exit, but it still does the CMOS Set up.  And my last question, I want to upgrade my PC's OS from Windows ME to Windows XP.  Do I need to change or add something in it, the processor, motherboard, etc.?  Thanks.  --Genepomelo.

Dr. J:  Try clearing the CMOS settings by removing the small battery in the motherboard that powers your CMOS for more than an hour to erase the settings.  If the battery is soldered on, take your system to a repair shop.  To use XP, your PC should have: a 750 MHz or faster processor, 128 MB of RAM or higher, 300 MB of free hard disk space, a Super VGA (800 600) monitor or higher, and a video adapter with 3-D graphics acceleration.

Question: Whenever I'm formatting my hard disk my PC always shuts down. When I tried pushing the power button a LED light (green only) flashes but the fans do not work.  What causes this? --Kevin Legaspi

Dr. J:  Problems may have occurred with the PCs power supply.  Bring it to your nearest trusted repair center.  Either have them fix the power supply or just ask them to replace it with a new one.

Question:  Greetings! I have a problem reading messages in my e-mail.  Most of my messages have HTML graphics which I cannot.  How can I see those graphics which are displayed only as a Red X inside a small box?  Do I need software to solve my problem? Thanks and more power to you. --Gelo Magpayo.

Dr. J:  Open your browser.  Go to Tools/Internet Options.  Click the Advanced tab.  Under the Multi-media sub menu select Show Pictures.  The problem is in your browser and not your e-mail.  Also check your browser, anti-virus and firewall security settings.

Question:  Is there any way to remove/hide the right click mouse option?  Another question is how do I create a password folder so no one else can open it? --Reynaldo Catipay.

Dr. J:  Open regedit.exe; Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer; from the Edit menu, select New and choose DWord Value; enter the name NoViewContextMenu and press enter; double click the new value and set the value to 1 and click OK.  Close the registry editor.  Logout and Login again.  For folder protection, you may want to visit http://www.wincry.com/, http://axcrypt.axantum.com/  You can also use WinZip.
