The mayor reminded tricycle and pedicab drivers that they could not impose higher fares these days because the city government has yet to amend the city ordinance allowing fare adjustment.

"It is improper to demand additional fare increase at this point in time. Besides, the local government has yet to allow a fare increase,’’ Echiverri said.

Although he is aware of the continued oil price increase, Echiverri said that drivers should also take into consideration the interest of commuters whose salaries are not increasing.

Echiverri said that if the drivers wanted to demand a fare increase, they should coordinate first with the Tricycle and Pedicab Driver’s Regulatory Services of the city and file their petition with the city council.

Echiverri urged the commuters to report to them any tricycle drivers who will ask higher fees.

He asked them to take note of the name of the tricycle operators and associations, body number and report to the city government for appropriate actions.

This developed as the mayor reiterated his order to the city’s Market Division to conduct regular price monitoring in all public markets in the city to ensure that prices of basic commodities remain low and reasonable. (Ed Mahilum)
