Fighting ‘doctora’

VALENZUELA CITY: A suspected holdup man who pretended to be a patient and tried to rob a female dentist was arrested after his supposed victim, who turned out have some training in the martial arts, fought and pinned him down inside her clinic at noon the other day. Police chased and cornered Robert Beltran, 30, a resident of Skyline Subdivision, Banga, Meycauayan, Bulacan, as he scampered away from the clinic of Dr. Rosanna Garcia. The lady dentist said Beltran entered her clinic at B-Halina Commercial Complex at Barangay Malanday at about 12:20 p.m. last Tuesday and asked for dental treatment. While she was preparing her medical instruments, the dentist said Beltran grabbed her by the neck and poked a sharp dental instrument at her. Not losing her composure, the doctor quickly wrestled with the suspect and punched him in the midsection. Seeing the futility of his robbery attempt, the suspect ran away but was later cornered by responding policemen. (Ed Mahilum)

2 kills in 1 night

NAVOTAS: Two persons were killed when they were shot and stabbed by a still unidentified lone assailant along the stretch of North Bay Boulevard Tuesday night. Police said Richard La Torre, 23, and Joseph Nocus, 24, suffered multiple bullet wounds and stab wounds and died on the spot. Quoting witnesses, Police Officer 2 Nicanor Zablan said the gunman attacked La Torre and Nocus as they were walking along the boulevard at around 8 p.m. A witness said the man first fired his gun at La Torre several times, before turning his ire on Nocus. "The man pulled out a gun and shot La Torre, and when his gun ran out of bullets, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed Nocus three times," the witness said. (Ed Mahilum)

Naked tourist

PASAY CITY: A Danish tourist who ran naked inside a restaurant at the CCP Complex on Roxas Boulevard was arrested by the police Tuesday night. The arrested tourist was identified through his credit cards as Elgard Carsten, 50. Investigators said Carsten, who appeared to be drunk at the time, entered the restaurant as it was about to close and suddenly took off his clothes and started running. The restaurant owner immediately sought the assistance of the police who arrested him. At the police station, Carsten repeatedly uttered "I’m the president of the United States." Investigators then informed the Royal Danish Consulate of the matter. Taken from Carsten’s possession was his wallet containing some R300 in cash, two credit cards from the Danske Bank, and a gold necklace. (James I. Catapusan)

11 arrested

VALENZUELA CITY: Police arrested 11 people with alleged pending criminal records in two days of operations. Superintendent Billy Beltran, the police chief, said the suspects were arrested on the basis of warrants of arrest issued by Judge Nena Santos of Regional Trial Court Branch 171. In last Tuesday’s operations, the operatives led by SPO3 Manolito Manalo, chief of the warrant and subpoena sections arrested suspects Edgar G. Morales, 34; Wong Inew Revel, 24; Mouries de la Cruz, 19; Fredel Enriquez, 21. The four suspects have pending cases of robbery before the sala of Judge Santos. In another operation, the operatives led by Manalo and SPO2 Rodrigo Farinas traced the whereabouts of murder suspects Raymond Conje, 25, and his brother Billy, 19; and their cousins Rusty Alde, 21; and Antonio, 18. Also arrested were Mark Arias, 23, for frustrated murder; and Peter Albesa, 24, for frustrated homicide; and Leandro Magno, 27, for theft. (Ed Mahilum)

Youth in suicide

QUEZON CITY: A youth took his own life in his bedroom the other night by putting a gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Senior Police Officer 2 Rafael Peralta identified the fatality as Mark Anthony Agas, 23, a college student. Police said a picture of his alleged girlfriend was found on the youth’s chest while his hand was still holding the gun. (Rico C. Navarro)
