A power glitch early yesterday morning halted for more than three hours the operation of Line 2 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) which travels from Santolan, Quezon City, to Recto Avenue in Manila, causing hundreds of passengers to be stranded.
In a statement, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Melquiades Robles said the incident happened at about 6:15 a.m. and temporarily halted the west-bound route of LRT’s Line 2.
The power glitch happened when a wire broke between the Santolan and Katipunan stations.
Radio reports said affected passengers were quickly transferred to rescue coaches by LRTA personnel.
LRTA engineers who were immediately dispatched to check the problem found a piece of tin that broke the wire.
The damage was repaired as the East-bound Anonas Station-Recto Station and vice-versa continued operations.
Robles said LRT Line 2 resumed full line operations at about 9:30 a.m. (JC Bello Ruiz)
