Make starry-eyed youth’s dream come true
Notwithstanding the present state of the Philippine movie industry, Rei Diaz–Yumol’s new outfit Journey Pictures initial venture "Sikil" is definitely pushing through.
"This is my way of thanking God for all the blessings He has been showering on me," Rei says. "I want to help the ailing industry, particularly the small workers."
Rei is in micro–financing business (RDY Moneylink Finance Corp.), but his love for films has made him venture into movie production. A native of Nueva Ecija, he’s a consistent honor student from elementary to college. Mr. Yumol now is 3rd year Law Student from Arellano University.
He also has some units in filmmaking from the University of the Philippines and has produced concerts for Sarah Geronimo, Mark Bautista, Rachel Ann Go, etc.
"I want to be part of making the dreams of starry–eyed youth a reality, by discovering potential talents, contracting and honing them till they become stars," Rey enthuses.
"This is our mission – a journey of sort, thus the name ‘Journey Pictures;’ and our first venture is the digi–film ‘Sikil.’"
Film Development Foundation winner Romualdo E. Avellanosa wrote the script and a new but promising Ronaldo M. Bertubin is directing it. "Sikil" is about a young closet gay prostitute who’s obsessed with a childhood friend who, like the dead character, is a callboy with a girlfriend. It’s a love triangle with a twist.
Journey Pictures’ contract stars who play significant roles in "Sikil" are:
Ken Escudero – Ginoong Filipinas 2006, from Cavite; holds a BS Marine Engineering diploma from Asian Institute of Maritime Studies; he plays Enzo, the "closet gay prostitute."
Wil Sandejas – a dusky ramp model from Laguna; finished a special course for caregivers; ex–vocalist of Replay Band; Ken’s object of affection;
Ashley Silverio – Amgirl from Olongapo; has appeared in ABS–CBN’s "Panday" and "Close To You." Her real life is a potential telenovela blockbuster. She’s willing to go sexy; plays rival to the closet callboy;
Ethan Javier – of Star Circle Batch 9; has appeared in "Treasure of Yamashita;" finished Business Management at UE; plays the bi-sexual pimp in "Sikil."
Marty Mendoza – Ginoong Nueva Ecija 2003 and Ginoong Filipinas 2003 first runner–up; Nursing student at PCHS; plays a regular bathhouse customer;
Corrine Concepcion – "Eat Bulaga" Little Ms. Philippines finalist on 1998. Consistent honor student from OLGrace Montessori. Taking up voice lessons at Center for Pop Music; plays a sampaguita vendor–pickpocket–shoplifter and caretaker of Adong’s daughter;
Others in the cast are: Justine Wayne Plummer, Angelina Marie Plummer and Reynald Russell Santos, all talented kids who passed Journey Pictures’ auditions. Seasoned actors will support "Sikil’s" youthful cast.
After "Sikil," another digi–film commences – "SaddiQ," from multi–awarded scriptwriter Ricky Lee, to be directed by acclaimed director Mel Chionglo; it stars Jay Manalo, Allen Dizon and Dina Bonnevie.
Also in the line–up if Film Development Foundation winning script "Calle Salvacion."
Apart from movie production, Rei is going into recording business, forming bands and developing singers.
