Your body needs its daily dose of nutrients. If you fail to give your body the vitamins that it needs to function, it will affect you physically, mentally and emotionally."
So says Carlo Orosa, an accomplished theater actor, singer and talent manager of STAGES talent and Asia’s Pop Idol Christian Bautista. Though Carlo already has his hands full handling Christian’s expanding career in Asia, he still has the time and energy to accomplish his other responsibilities, advocacies and interests—a feat he credits to his daily habit of taking vitamins.
According to a Newsweek article earlier this year, experts recommend taking several vitamins each day for the body to function properly. It’s not enough to take just one type of vitamin, scientists say, because the body needs nearly 40 different vitamins and minerals for various tasks—from "shoring up bones to bolstering the immune system and repairing cellular damage."
Estima, the proponent of the movement to get Filipinos to take vitamins daily, aims to instill that practice in a greater number of Filipinos. "We believe that a country whose people have poor eating habits will eventually suffer from waning creativity, decreasing competitiveness and declining economy. Nutrition is one of the foundations of a strong country," explains Gemma Gochuico, managing director of Estima.
To support its "Dapat Daily" vitamins campaign, Estima recently came out with two commercials featuring Carlo and another theater stalwart, Carla Martinez. "Aside from their acting abilities, we chose these personalities because of their credibility. They are people you would accept advice from," says Gemma.
Carlo has been taking vitamins all his life. What started as a daily intake of Vitamin C (helps in collagen formation and immune system function) has now grown to an everyday routine of taking omega-3 fish oil (benefits the heart, brain and bones), Vitamin E (supports cellular structures and aids the formation of red blood cells) and, of course, Vitamin C. "I wear many hats. With the pressure of everything I’ve committed myself to do, I stay sane by working out, eating right and taking vitamins. Without my vitamins, things wouldn’t feel normal," says Carlo.
This acclaimed theater actor’s day usually starts besieged with calls for meetings and inquiries about the talents he manages, which include Christian and "Little Big Star" winner Sam Concepcion. Then his afternoons are reserved for more meetings and planning, and the remainder of his day is spent at STAGES, sometimes until 1 a.m. On some days, Carlo looks after what goes on at Trumpets where he is the account executive for the theater group’s projects. He also visits Manila Genesis regularly to check his assignments as a talent.
Aside from managing his talents and checking on his own theater projects, Carlo does singing and hosting gigs for corporate shows.
